Align your business goals with your web design

It's time to start thinking about your website as an extension of your business, not something separate. Anything you post online needs to reflect your company values, and your business goals. If your website isn't reflecting your business properly, it's time to redesign.

The first step to starting a web design is to map out your business goals. If you want a website that works and properly represents your company it must properly reflect your goals in mind.

The importance of having metrics

A website needs to have measurable metric goals. What do you want your website to do for you? Are you looking to generate more awareness and increase your online reach? Or are you looking to close more leads and increase sales? We recommend that you define website metrics at the beginning of the process and focus on those.

Having these metrics mapped out will help you to understand if your website is working for your business. Simply saying you want to "make more money" is not a valid goal for your business, so it cannot be a valid goal for your website. You need to be focused on the right website metrics. Set numbers you can measure, and redesign from there.

Understand who your traffic should be

Part of determining your business goals is determining who your business wants to reach: your buyer personas. As your buyer personas take shape and you begin to understand who your web traffic should be, you can begin to optimize your website for those specific personas.

If your buyer personas are, for example, luxury shoppers your website needs to reflect that. Your redesign should be done so that these buyers are intrigued and attracted to your business from your website. If you aren't designing your website to meet these consumers' needs, then your website will be ineffective.

Customers see your website first

Think of how you most frequently find businesses. It's probably all online, right? That's how most people do. In fact, 51% of mobile online users have discovered a new company or product through online search. Where do the online searches lead them? To the company website.

If your web redesign isn't focused on your business goals, your site may not represent your company properly. If your site doesn't represent your business appropriately, you may be attracting the wrong people, and not generating qualified leads.
