Creating consumable content

The average human attention span has fallen considerably - now it's reported that most people have an attention span of 8 seconds.

Do you know what has an attention span longer than 8 seconds? A goldfish.

This short attention span means if you want to write content that doesn't just get seen but actually gets read, you need some pretty good content. You want to hook your audience in and get them to focus.

Quality over quantity

You may have seen very aggressive content marketing strategies that involve writing an article or a blog post every single day. There are certainly serious benefits to this content marketing strategy, but one of the drawbacks is that you're creating content that isn't necessarily the highest quality.

You also want to make sure you're writing content that your audience wants to read and is useful. Think about questions you get asked by your customers frequently. Answer each of those questions in a blog post for content that you know will be helpful to your audience, and you'll see why content marketing makes your customers happy.

Don't reinvent the wheel

You want to be producing high quality and worthwhile content, but remember that the quality of your content won't fully change someone's reading habits. You're not likely to get a person who doesn't read to sit and start reading essays on a weekly basis.

Think about how you look for information online - you probably do a lot of skimming and not a lot of actual thorough reading.

Format your blogs with headers, some bullet points, and smaller blocks of text. Content that is easy and fast for your audience to consume is the most ideal.

Incorporate visuals and video

Audiences spend more time looking at images on a site than they spend reading text. Images also help boost their memory, as they're easier for most people to remember than text.

You could consider adding images to your blog posts, or creating infographics if you have really statistic heavy information to spread. If you're comfortable with it, start a vlog! Adding video into your content mix has huge growth potential for your business.
