Last week Pinterest reached 100 million users, the addiction is real!

The pin board, social media giant, has become the go to place for people planning future purchases. With 70% of it’s 100 million users clicking through to websites and discovering more about the photo in front of them, Pinterest has become a lead generation juggernaut.

If you’re not on Pinterest, then you are missing an important tool for business growth.

Reach and demographics

Quite simply the potential reach on Pinterest is bananas! With 100 million active users, who actively use the search tool, you’re brand and products have the ability to reach new heights. It’s not just the reach that is incredible it’s also the demographics.

Ahaology actively measure Pinterest’s consumer behaviours and habits and monitors the demographics for the site. Here’s a quick look at who’s on Pinterest

  • 82% of users are Female and 67% are under 40
  • Males are the fastest growing group on Pinterest up 75% since last year

Purchasing power

The numbers don’t lie, 87% of Pinterest users have purchased a product because of the site. Users are engaged, open to your marketing and are using the site to make their purchasing decisions. In fact 93% of users, use the site to plan future purchases.

Pinterest may be a way for your business to save money on traditional print advertising. Surveyed active users admitted that they spend little time consuming print media now that they’ve found the site.

Long-term visibility & pay-off!

A pin lasts forever; your high quality pins and linked content remain relevant on the social site forever. The search feature means that relevant and frequently pinned content pops up time and time again for users.

A pin created four years ago retains it’s evergreen status to this day, as long as it offers relevant and quality content it will still be found.

Referral traffic driver

Your brand has probably found success with Facebook as a referral driver for your site, Pinterest will grow your social media referral traffic by 5% more if you're doing it right. That’s more than any other social site, apart from Facebook.

By monitoring your pins trends you can determine what pins succeed and which ones don’t. This allows you to adjust or re-invent pins so that they inspire and encourage action to better increase your traffic driver. Pinners are telling you something when they interact with your pin, they’re telling you what they want to buy.

There is also the promotional pin option, where you can pay for your pin to be seen by more people. However, if you’re a Canadian business and do not have a U.S. based-business account you’ll have to wait until the site develops the service for our country.
