As one of Ontario's first shelters for abused women and children, Gillian’s Place has been providing safe refuge and non-residential programs that enable women, non-binary people and their children to break the cycle of violence for over 40 years. Gillian's Place approached H&C Inc. to facilitate a new logo and website rebuild; this project would be complete with diverse and inclusive imagery, visionary design elements, a brand identity refresh and empowering and compelling content.
From the first day of this project, the team focused on two things, education and research. We knew that in order to incorporate Gillian’s Place's new branding and website in a way that was both subtle and impactful, we needed to understand the stories and meaning behind what we were looking at. The final logo includes digital design elements and a colour palette that were sourced from the colour purple to signify domestic violence awareness. These elements were then implemented throughout the new website to ensure a cohesive feel and increase brand recognition.
The overall functionality and flow of the website were created to present the current selection of services in a clear manner that provided survivors with information about their options for both emergent and non-emergent situations. We also wanted to ensure that community partners, small businesses and individuals who were looking to help could seamlessly navigate to a selection of donation options and volunteer opportunities.
As Gillian's Place continues to grow, the H&C team will continue to expand its new branding to create compelling elements of design, because the heart of the brand is still giving back to the community and increasing the streams of giving which affect so many people.
